HeartLine  -  July-August 2010Strategic Communicating

Friends, the following is the request that we sent last month. Note that if you need a few extra days, we need your completed list of local church e-mail addresses by July 26.

Editor’s Note: Please read “We Hear You” in this issue of HeartLine for dialog between a district secretary and the Global NMI Office in response to this request.

Thank you for your missional leadership: strategic, local, and global. We have already sent a copy of this request to each district NMI president and secretary. Please complete the following request and respond by July 26. Please mark your calendar.

We will e-mail local NMI presidents in late July about the Thanksgiving WEF PLUS offering to raise an additional $6 million for missions globally.

We need the following contact information for each local NMI president on your district, especially an e-mail address. We will use the e-mail addresses immediately (and several times through the next few months) to communicate directly with each local president.

One of the first decisions Carol and I made as new missionaries was to insure that we could communicate with our family via e-mail. We knew that this would be Kingdom-efficient and economical. Our parents in their elder years (seventies and eighties) learned how to connect with us via e-mail. Since then, we also communicate via Skype and Facebook with our family members in India, France, and across North America.

You and I communicate with colleagues in remote villages and locations globally every day. In most nations, it is possible to access Web-based e-mail from at least an Internet café. This is especially true in the USA/Canada Region.

Do you agree that it is time for NMI leaders to connect by e-mail at least across the U.S.A. and Canada? We think that every local NMI president can and should access e-mail at least twice weekly. This will help you and us to stay more closely connected and to save essential budget and precious time.

We want to send Mission Connection to every local NMI president via e-mail. We need your help to gather and maintain e-mail addresses for each president on your district.

We will invite you twice each year to update the following contact information for each local NMI president. We need this from you by July 26, will request an update from you in early 2011, and will remind you to update this information every six months after that. In a mobile culture, we face turnover of leaders and frequent changes of contact information, especially e-mail addresses.

If any local NMI president on your district does not currently have e-mail access, please ask that leader now to provide the e-mail address of someone who connects frequently, who can print the message, and who give it to that leader within a couple of days. Let’s begin to expect that every local missional church and NMI president in the U.S.A. and Canada will learn how to communicate via the Internet (even if in their seventies or eighties).

In some cases, the local president can access e-mail through the church office, public library, school, government office, or Internet café. Perhaps a student in the community who does not attend church could help. Imagine the possibilities! Remember that even dial-up Internet access is available wherever there is a telephone. High-speed Internet connections are preferable, but are not essential.

We have attempted to lighten your load by attaching a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for each church on your district. We have listed each district in alphabetical order. If you need help to complete this document, please ask a friend, teacher at school, or student to assist you. Many leaders are familiar with Excel and utilize the program daily.

  1. Please complete information for all churches on your district.
  2. Please enter a valid e-mail address for an NMI leader in each local church.
  3. Remember to save the document to your desktop or document file as you begin.
  4. Please return the completed Excel spreadsheet to Wayne LaForce at wlaforce@nazarene.org or call him at 913.577.2980 for answers to questions.
  5. Please return by July 25 at the latest. We will send the next WEF PLUS e-mail a few days after that date.

Thank you so much for your typical collaborative and rapid response! This will help NMI to become more strategic, more efficient, and more economical in communication. This should help your district team to communicate more strategically also. Blessings in Christ.
